TAILWIND ICE TENT
We know it’ll be hot, so we’ve made sure runners have the best chance of keeping cool with the Tailwind Ice Tent! While on the gravel track, please run THROUGH the ice tent rather than AROUND the ice tent. This will be clearly marked on race day.
All runners will receive a personal sponge in their registration swag bag (5km runners will have 1 sponge, 10km and 21km runners will each receive 2 sponges). These sponges are not to be shared and should be kept with you at all times.
The sponges are BRAND NEW and have not been used previously, but they will not be in sealed packaging as they are sold in a multi-pack.
In the interests of hygiene and no shared equipment, there will be no direct contact between runner sponges and the ice water bucket. As per event restrictions, we will NOT be providing hydration or fuelling aid stations on the course.
The Ice Tent will operate in the following manner:
Run through the ice tent and hold out your personal sponge(s)
Our Cool Crew will be wearing gloves, and use a jug to pour ice water on your sponge. There will be no contact between your personal sponge and the jug, or between Cool Crew and runners.
Personal sponges or towels or any other personal items CANNOT be dipped into the ice buckets.
Please maintain a safe distance of at least 1m from our Cool Crew and other runners while in the Ice Tent.
DO NOT throw your sponge away after passing through the Ice Tent, especially if you intend to use it again. There will be no spares provided.
There will be no water refill or provision of ice for bottles or hydration packs at the Ice Tent.
Personal sponge etiquette:
No sharing of sponges
No dipping of sponges into ice buckets
If you don’t want to use your sponge, you can return it to us before or after your run.
You can dispose of your personal sponge after the race into our Sponge Disposal Bins, or keep them for the next time! We will recycle the sponges for other uses.
(FatBurd Car Wash, anyone?)
*PRO TIP: Squeeze your sponge as ice water is being poured on it, it’ll help absorb a little more!
