Satellite National Team Championships

19th October 2024

On 19th October 2024 at 7am (Bell Buckle, TN time - that’s 8pm Singapore time), National Teams of 15 runners each will compete in Satellite National Championship Backyard Ultras at locations in their home countries around the world. All the races will occur simultaneously and will continue until a winner is declared in each one.

The team championship will go to the nation whose runners total the most yards during the competition (every team member, from the number 1 runner down to number 15, is of equal value in team scoring). The individual champion will be the last runner to finish a yard... so only the team with the strongest assist man can produce the winner.

We can only be as good as our opponents make us. This is true of all competition but is only codified in the Backyard Ultra.

Scoring and broadcast of the event will be carried out on the internet. National Team Members will earn their places on the team by winning Silver Ticket events or by performances during the qualifying period (August 16, 2022 - August 15, 2024).

National Champions will win a Golden Ticket to the Big Dog's World Individual Championships in October of 2025.

In the absence of 15 runners who have reached the qualifying distance (24 yards) the team manager will be able to select the additional runners as he/she wishes. A good result in any backyard event you run during the qualifying period (August 16, 2022 - August 15, 2024) can place you on that list.

Runners at the World Team Championships will be both representing their country as a member of the team (ALL members are scoring members) and competing for the individual National Championship.  The Team Championships were first held in 2020, with Belgium winning, the USA second, and Mexico third.

The first Satellite National Championships was held in Singapore on 17th October 2020.

In 2022, Joshua Toh completed 51 yards to win the event, with Deric Lau as his Assist (50 yards).
